Steps to obtain a Commercial Registration (CR):

Obtaining a CR is the first step in establishing your company's legal identity and ability to operate. It signifies official recognition by the government authorities.

Step 1: Choose a Trade Name
  • This is the first step in establishing your business identity. Your trade name is what your customers will associate with your brand.
  • Take your time to choose a name that reflects your business values and offerings.
  • Keep in mind that if your chosen name cannot be translated into Arabic, there may be an additional fee for registration in English.
Step 2: Pare Articles of Association (AOA)
  • The Articles of Association (AOA) is a legal document that outlines the rules governing the internal management of your company.
  • It includes details about shareholders, their ownership stakes, rights, and responsibilities.
  • You can use a government-issued template or hire a consultant to draft the AOA for you.
  • It's important to note that the AOA must be in Arabic, as it is the official language accepted in court.
Step 3: Submit for CR Issuance
  • Once you've decided on your trade name and prepared the AOA, you can submit these documents to obtain your Commercial Registration (CR).
  • During this process, you'll need to specify your business activities and pay the required fees.
  • Be sure to check if your business activities require any pre-approvals or special conditions, and verify these with the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC).
  • Ensure that all shareholders are present for identity verification during the submission process.
Step 4: Specify Activities and Pay Fees
  • When submitting your documents for CR issuance, you'll need to specify the activities your business will engage in.
  • Each type of business activity may have different charges associated with it, ranging from QAR 500/year to QAR 10,000/year.
  • If the exact description of your business activity is not available on the form, choose the one closest to it.
  • Pay the respective fees for each business activity and any processing fees required.
Step 5: Renewal
  • The CR issued will be valid for one year and must be renewed annually to maintain legal compliance.
  • You can renew your CR online through the relevant government portal.
  • Be sure to complete the renewal process before the expiry date to avoid any penalties or legal issues.

Completing these steps ensures that your company is officially registered and authorized to conduct business in Qatar. It's essential to follow each step accurately and promptly to avoid any delays or complications in the registration process.
